Logicalis CEO walking the walk with Sustainability

Bob Bailkoski walking the walk with sustainability

In a recent interview with ARN Australia, Logicalis CEO Bob Bailkoski restated the organisations sustainability credentials with an increased focus on helping customers reduce energy costs and carbon associated with IT. As well as its consultancy and security offerings, Bailkoski spoke highly of the business’ sustainable IT services.

“Lots of customers are looking for partners like Logicalis to help them address the carbon footprint that they emit from their IT environment,” he said. “We’ve invested heavily in our Australian practice in getting the right levels of certifications and qualifications from the vendor community to be seen as the greenest IT partner in the market.

“What that really means is that we can support Australian customers in their attempts to reduce their carbon emissions.

“Whilst that might be great from a feel-good factor, it actually has a tangible bottom line benefit for organisations, because reducing your carbon footprint means reducing power utilisation, which actually means reducing your energy bills overall.”

Bailkoski added that that reduction in bills can help budgets to make way for increased spending on AI or security projects.

The CEO is also aware that putting forward such an initiative brings up discussions around greenwashing, but Bailkoski says he’s walking the walk with an internal team dedicated to being more sustainable as an organisation.

“About two and a half years ago, I set a target for the organisation to become carbon neutral in scope one and scope two emissions by 2025,” he said. “In about June, we achieved that target. So, we do a lot internally to make sure that we reduce our own carbon footprint.

“From a carbon emissions perspective, we’ve made some significant efforts in that area as well, including a global travel policy that requires organisations to use a third party piece of technology which advises you on the most sustainable route from a travel perspective.

“That’s even if that involves a flight somewhere which is not the most carbon efficient way of travelling. Even within the flight options, there are more carbon efficient ways of travelling than you might imagine. Different airlines and different aeroplanes have different carbon emissions.”

In addition, Logicalis’ goals have been accepted by the corporate climate action-focused organisation Science Based Targets Initiative and is working towards the UN’s goals on sustainability.
Past this, Logicalis is striving towards sustainability in other ways, such as taking on community initiatives that it supports with money every year.

“It’s not just writing checks to organisations, it’s about supporting the communities with tangible efforts that will improve those communities in the space of technology, like supporting underprivileged children learn technology skills,” Bailkoski said.

“We do a tremendous amount in this space to make sure that we talk the talk and walk the walk to the extent possible.

“To complement all of that, we think we can have much greater impact on the world. If we can support other organisations — we’ve got 10,000 customers globally across Logicalis on an annual basis — in becoming more sustainable from an IT perspective as well, then that exponential effect will be significant in terms of the world’s efforts to become more sustainable and to reduce carbon emissions. “
