Shaping a more inclusive future

Shaping a more inclusive future

Global, Apr 23, 2025

Technology is a cornerstone of the modern world. From the way we live and work to communicate, it fuels innovation, drives economic growth and solves global challenges. Yet, despite its vast potential, the industry remains dominated by men, with women only making up a fraction of overall leadership positions. The question is, how can technology truly serve everyone if half the population it serves are underrepresented in shaping its future?

The power of diversity in technology

Diverse perspectives lead to better problem solving, stronger collaboration and increased innovation. A 2023 study from McKinsey showed that companies with greater diversity on their board of directors are more likely to outperform financially. Taking it even further, companies in the top quartile for board-gender diversity are 27 percent more likely to outperform those in the bottom quartile. Yet, women in the industry continue to face barriers – from lack of visibility of female leadership to opportunities to enter STEM industries. Breaking these barriers is not just about equality; it’s about harnessing the untapped potential of talented women who can drive progress and innovation.

Leading by example

Across the industry, leaders in global enterprises are proving that inclusion leads to stronger, more agile teams. After dedicating more than 15 years shaping the industry through leadership, mentorship and advocacy, I’ve had personal experience of both what it is to see and serve under female leadership and personally lead successful, agile teams. When I started my career, it was a very male, very white-dominated space. There has been a huge (and welcome) shift in recent years, to include a broader range of perspectives to truly drive innovation throughout the industry. I know the difference it would have had on me to see more female leadership in those early years, so as a leader I work to not only be the leader I would have wanted to work with, but to actively encourage diverse perspectives and proactive communication.

Working across 32 countries, liaising internally and externally to drive performance, I’ve fostered inclusion while managing five global partners, liaising internally and externally to drive performance. With a team of nine, including experts in global centres of excellence, I have implemented a range of strategies to promote inclusivity. From bi-weekly check-ins and open communications channels on Teams and Viva Engage to cross-border collaboration, diversity isn’t just encouraged, it’s actively leveraged for success. Adapting my management style to suit different audiences has allowed me to create successful, diverse teams that drive innovation.

Shaping future leaders

Mentorship is one of the most powerful ways to foster long-term change. A well-guided mentee can navigate the complexities of the industry, build confidence, and overcome barriers.

During my career I’ve mentored several individuals, including three in Logicalis alone, providing guidance to support their growth. In my previous role at Vodafone, I actively contributed to talent and leadership programmes, working directly to mentor underprivileged individuals for six months.

Through mentorship, women gain role models who showcase what’s possible. Visibility is a critical factor in advocating for women in tech. The more women are seen in influential positions, the more perceptions shift. They see representation in leadership, and as a result, begin to envision themselves stepping into these positions. Creating pathways for women in technology isn’t just about hiring more female professionals – it’s about ensuring they rise to leadership positions where they can drive systemic change.

Building a future for everyone, by everyone

Technology thrives when diverse minds collaborate. The industry must not only welcome women into the space but also provide opportunities for them to lead, innovate, and shape its future.

While progress has been made, the work is far from over. Leaders must continue advocating for change, ensuring hiring practices are inclusive, mentorship opportunities are abundant, and visibility remains a priority. Through education, collaboration, and proactive leadership, women in tech will continue to rise – and as they do, the industry will be better for it.

Together, we can empower, include, and lead, toward a future that is built for everyone, by everyone.
