Background

Amidst a backdrop of numerous brands and over 900 operational units, one of Brazil's foremost integrated healthcare networks embarked on the construction of its novel administrative headquarters. This transition, triggered by consolidating the network's diverse entities and an impending relocation, underscored the urgency to evolve a contemporary IT infrastructure. This new structure would seamlessly accommodate the network's extensive operations, inherently considering the collaborative work modality and capitalizing on the newest technological paradigms.

Objectives or Challenges

Logicalis, a long-standing client of the healthcare network with a robust four-year relationship, was entrusted with the monumental task of conceptualizing the IT architecture for the upcoming headquarters. This initiative, spanning a meticulous six months from inception to client endorsement, was underpinned by two key principles:

  • Ensuring unerring efficiency across all functional realms within the headquarters.
  • Crafting an IT framework that would epitomize and spotlight the potency of modern IT in a real-world application.

Outcome

Upon culmination, the healthcare network is poised to leverage an IT infrastructure that mirrors the zenith of modern technology. Anticipated outcomes encompass:

  • Superior visibility into user interactions, empowering the network to pinpoint potential challenges swiftly.
  • Amplified security measures, bestowing stringent access control protocols and facilitating discernment of users and their device access privileges.
  • The new security access model is primed for future extensions across multiple units beyond the new headquarters.
  • The delegation of managed services ensures that the healthcare conglomerate can redirect its focus on core healthcare ventures without needing in-house IT specialists.

Solution

1. Corporate Network:

  • Design Philosophy: An amalgamation of SD-Access and Wi-Fi 6e ideologies.
  • Technological Core: Incorporation of Cisco DNA Centre and Cisco DNA Spaces for geolocation purposes, which led to an autonomous LAN environment and substantially curtailed troubleshooting intervals.
  • Advanced Functionalities: An orchestration stratum designed to continually assess data traffic, decipher network conduct, and pre-emptively identify potential anomalies. Moreover, the geolocation feature accentuated the ability to recognize users within the headquarters, oversee equipment connectivity, and initiate alerts upon device movement beyond stipulated boundaries.

2. Enhanced Network Intelligence:

  • ThousandEyes Integration: This software gave the client instantaneous insights into the user experience when interfacing with corporate applications, mapping the user's digital path across the Internet, local networks, and the public cloud.
  • Dashboard Capabilities: These provide real-time and historical metrics concerning user experience and network performance, supplemented by proactive alerts for rectifying potential glitches.

3. Security:

  • Access Control: The Cisco ISE (Identity Services Engine) was the cornerstone for regulating network access. Its capabilities span from discerning between various device types to executing compliance evaluations against the company's established security mandates.
  • Perimeter Defence: Standardized adoption of Fortinet firewalls across all client units, underpinning the SDWAN design. These firewalls act as the primary bulwark, facilitating secure data centre connections while safeguarding internal users.

4. Managed Services:

A holistic management layer envelops the solutions, with Logicalis assuming responsibilities ranging from malfunctioning equipment to infrastructure surveillance and routine operations, such as new user activations.
