Scenario
In order to create necessary the infrastructure to implement the
National Broadband Plan (PNBL), Telebrás is building a new Internet
backbone with national coverage. One of their needs in this process
is to optimise the resolution of domain names, ensuring a better
browsing experience to users and mitigating the risks of potential
failures caused by DoS attacks (Denial of Service) or DDoS
(distributed denial of service).
Other need is to reduce the risk of attacks, while ensuring
availability and quality of services to be provided.
Solution
PromonLogicalis provided the Nominum solution, used by major
carriers worldwide, both for authoritative and recursive DNS
servers. Among the standout features of the solution are the
high performance and reliability, as well as additional security
features.
For backbone security and analysis, PromonLogicalis provides the
Arbor Peakflow SP platform. The system "learns" the normal behavior
of the network and generates warnings to identify and treat in case
of any kind of anomaly - whether caused by an attack,
misconfiguration, equipment failure or long-term changes. Thus, the
solution not only acts in the treatment of invasions, but also
works as a tool for planning and traffic engineering, due to the
visibility it provides.
Benefits
Thanks to the Peakflow platform, customers can
reduce the risk of attacks and hence provide higher quality
service, availability and reliability to its customers, avoiding
financial risks (such as churn, for example), regulatory (with
sanctions of regulatory agency) and reputation.
The Nominum platform provides DNS services for a better browser
experience to the operator’s customers, with more agility and
availability. The solution also provides greater protection against
attacks targeting the DNS service, ensuring continuity of services
and avoiding financial and regulatory losses and image damage.
