When the leases of their Hewlett-Packard (HP) K-Class
Servers were due to expire, Pennsylvania-based Oberg Industries
sought a supplier to perform a comprehensive upgrade of their IT
infrastructure.
A major designer and manufacturer of metal stamping, plastic
injection molded parts and precision stamping dies, Oberg relies on
the Baan ERP package to assist in controlling their core business
processes and activities.
Logicalis was one of several firms to receive Oberg's call.
"We've worked with Logicalis since 1998," said Mike Sterba,
Manager of IT at Oberg. "Our comfort level with them was key in
asking them for a proposal. However, it was Logicalis' ability to
offer comprehensive service solutions and a competitive bid that
secured the contract."
An international technology integration and professional
services company, Logicalis was well prepared to meet Oberg's
challenge.
The project team first replaced the company's two servers with
new and more efficient HP L-Class Servers, which promised a
dramatic increase in overall system performance. Next, Logicalis
moved Oberg's Baan application to one of the new servers and
duplicated its HP Oracle 7.3.4 database on the other - while
simultaneously migrating it to a new Oracle 8.1 database. And Oberg
benefits with high availability and greater speed.
Because reliability was critical, Oberg also asked Logicalis to
install HP's Multi-Computer/ServiceGuard. This failover system
protects critical applications from a variety of software and
hardware failures, thereby assuring high availability. The
upgrades made by Logicalis led to dramatic results. Oberg's company
wide regeneration of MRP runs went from 1.5 hours to one-half
hour.
Of course, one of the best measures of a company's satisfaction
with a supplier is the degree to which they award them new
business. And, by this standard, Oberg's approval of
Logicalis is strong. The company recently commissioned Logicalis to
implement a back-up strategy based on the HP OpenView OmniBack II
System. Other IT projects for Logicalis are also on the
horizon.
Testimonial
"The response by my colleagues to the solutions offered by Logicalis has been tremendous," adds Oberg's Mike Sterba. "From them, our department has received many words of appreciation. That's unusual - and gratifying - for an IT department."
