Glenbrook School District Stays at the Top of the Class with New Campus Network
The Client
Glenbrook School District in Chicago's northern suburbs has been an educational technology leader for many years. Gbnet is a metropolitan and local area network made up of over 1800 interconnected computers. The sites are connected via microwave, broadband cable, and leased telephone lines.
The Challenge
The fact that they had leveraged technology so successfully to support educational programs left Glenbrook with a network with too much demand. Accessing resources became such a lengthy process that teachers began to think that the technology was getting in the way of education. The challenge was to replace network infrastructure with a new, state-of-the-art design that increases bandwidth and functionality to meet current and future demand.
The Solution
Logicalis provided a current environment analysis, defined system requirements to meet current and future needs, and based on those needs worked with Glenbrook staff to conduct a system selection process. The design provided Glenbrook High Schools the ability to have 10/100 Ethernet service to client devices, Gigabit Ethernet for all core connections (with bonding capabilities), Layer-3 switching of IP, IPX and Appletalk routing. It also provided a high degree of local network management and critical network and device security.
The entire installation was completed within the district's weeklong spring break. Logicalis then provided complete customized training classes that included 'hands on' labs to get Glenbrook staff proficient with the new design.
The Bottom Line
The new network with it's faster speeds and higher capacity supports more efficient software distribution and quicker access to databases.
